SnapshotKFM, one of a few high-grade copper and cobalt mines in the world, has maintained high production since its completion. It is the largest cobalt producer in the world.

CMOC expects the average cobalt annual production capacity at KFM to be at 82,000 tonnes in the two years to December 2026.

A second phase of production capacity expansion at KFM is planned for 2027, with CMOC recently signing a cooperation agreement with Lualaba Power for output from the Nzilo II hydropower station in the DRC.

CMOC Kisanfu Mining SARL owns the KFM (Kisanfu) mine and is 95% owned by KFM Holding. KFM Holding is owned 75% by CMOC Group and 25% by Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL).

As a result, CMOC Group owns 71.25% of the KFM mine, CATL owns 23.75%, and the DRC government retains a 5% stake.

In such deposits, copper and cobalt minerals are typically disseminated within sedimentary rocks, often associated with organic material or evaporitic sequences. The Central African Copperbelt, where KFM is located, is renowned for hosting numerous significant sediment-hosted stratiform copper-cobalt deposits.
