Snapshot	In a tumultuous turn of events, Queensland-based mining company Aurora Metals has collapsed, leaving a trail of debts. Aurora Metals' collapse came after mining services company Emeco took legal action to protect its interests. The company had provided ongoing care and maintenance services to one of Aurora's mothballed mines. Aurora Metals Limited, is the most recent operator of the Surveyor OP (Balcooma) mine, put the site into care and maintenance in 2021. Aurora Metals was subsequently liquidated and associated mining leases were disclaimed in March 2024. Quensland Government is actively managing the sites under the Abandoned Mine Lands Program since March 2024.

Summary:

• Occur within metapelites and metarhyolite, of the Balcooma Metavolcanics
• Two lenses are lead/zinc rich and one is copper rich
• Lens like bodies
• Recent age dating suggests the bodies formed in the Early Ordovician (~480Ma)
• Textures suggest the deposit is a deformed and metamorphosed volcanogenic massive sulphide similar to those in the Seventy Mile range Group.
• Mineralisation is Volcanic Hosted Massive Sulphide type typical of deposits in a back-arc setting “Kuroko type”.
