Snapshot	The Lisbon Valley includes two active open pits: the Centennial and GTO, which are being continuously mined. In April 2023, the owner of the Lisbon Valley mine, Lisbon Valley Mining Company, LLC (LVMC) submitted a modification to their existing Mine Plan of Operations to expand the Project by approximately 5,430 acres into an area referred to as the Lower Lisbon Valley (LLV) Plan Boundary, which the BLM will analyze under NEPA. The proposed expansion activities would increase the disturbance up to 2,391 acres. LVMC is proposing to expand the current mining and beneficiation operations within the LLV Plan Boundary, as well as initiate the extraction of copper through an in-situ recovery (ISR) process. Both mining methods will work together. The proposed expansion activities would include improvement of existing mining facilities in the mine plan boundary and construction of new facilities and associated access, power, and water facilities in the exploration plan boundary.

Summary:

Lisbon Valley can be considered a “sandstone-hosted copper deposit”.

Mineralization at the three Lisbon Valley deposits consists of low-temperature copper minerals disseminated throughout certain porous and permeable sandstone beds in the Dakota and Burro Canyon formations. Copper minerals are either sulfides (chalcocite, djurleite, covellite, bornite, chalcopyrite), carbonates (malachite, azurite), or oxides (tenorite, cuprite, neotocite/copper wad). The vast majority of contained copper is in malachite, chalcocite, azurite, and tenorite, in that order. Sulfides occur at depth, while the oxides and carbonates predominate within 150 feet or so of the surface.
