SnapshotThe Millennium Complex is made up of Mavis Downs mine (underground) and Millennium mine (previously open cut). The Complex is adjacent to Poitrel and shares access to Red Mountain coal handling and preparation plant, and coal loading and transport infrastructure.

Conventional open-cut truck and shovel production activities concluded at the Millennium Complex in the fourth quarter of 2023. The Mavis Underground project has proven to be uneconomic. Mining operations ceased on 28 June 2024.

The Millennium Complex as a whole is expected to reach steady state minimum expenditure care and maintenance regime by the end of 3Q 2024.

The potential Millennium underground development option is unaffected by this decision. Further exploration, engineering and approvals works are progressing on the Millennium underground project. The required EA amendment is scheduled for lodgement in the third quarter of 2024.

Summary:

The Millennium project area lies within the Permo-Triassic Bowen Basin. The Bowen Basin consists of 10 kilometre (km) thick sequences of volcanic, shallow marine and terrestrial sediments and is categorised back-arc to foreland basin.

Coal seams occur within the Rangal Coal Measures which are Late Permian in age. These seams dip to the west at approximately 4 - 7 degrees within the Millennium Lease and 4 – 10 degrees to the east at Mavis Downs.

The coal seams of interest found within the Project area are as follows – Leichhardt and Vermont Upper 1. Additional seams were intersected in the historic drilling and in part analysed these were the M seam and plies of the Vermont Lower Seams.

The target seams have a cumulative thickness of approximately 7 m across the deposit.
