Control of the Dartbrook mine has effectively shifted away from Australian Pacific Coal since July 2025. Legal and operational authority now rests with the receivers appointed on behalf of Vitol Asia Pte Ltd (“Vitol”), with FTI Consulting acting as the receivers and managers over all secured property of the Dartbrook Joint Venture.
Financial control is also in Vitol’s hands, as the senior secured creditor: it determines how the asset will be managed, realised, and how proceeds will be distributed. Although Australian Pacific Coal Ltd (AQC) remains a nominal joint-venture participant on paper, it no longer holds practical ownership, operational influence, or economic benefit in Dartbrook, and the company itself has adopted the position that its interest in the mine has zero value.
Coal within Dartbrook is located on the western side of the Muswellbrook Anticline. Strata of the Permian Wittingham Coal Measures outcrop in the area and dip gently generally to the west. The location of the igneous intrusions and faults in the Dartbrook deposit is well-known. They have been considered for both resource estimation and mining operations. Based on observations from previous underground operations, the igneous intrusions and faults will have no material impact on the Dartbrook coal product qualities. Within the Dartbrook Open Cut Pre-Feasibility Study mine schedule there are 13 coal seams amenable to open cut mining.
