SnapshotThe Taranaki Vanadiferous titanomagnetite (VTM) iron sand project is located 22km to 36km offshore, outside New Zealand's territorial waters, within its exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the South Taranaki Bight (STB) off the west coast of the North Island and has a granted mining licence.

The project involves the excavation of seabed material containing iron sand using a subsea sediment extraction device for processing on a Floating Processing Storage and Offloading Vessel.

In May 2025, Trans-Tasman Resources, has received confirmation from the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) that its application for the Taranaki VTM project has been accepted as complete and will proceed to the next stage of New Zealand’s fast-track approvals process.

Subject to completion of the regulatory approval processes, the Company intends to move into Definitive BFS workstreams which consist largely of detailed vessel engineering and the development of procurement and funding strategies.

Summary:

Taranaki Vanadiferous titanomagnetite (VTM) iron sand project located in the South Taranaki Bight (STB) off the west coast of the North Island, New Zealand.

The Taranaki VTM deposits are submarine aeolian/alluvial/marine accumulation of iron sand in palaeochannels, beaches and dunes.

The main mineral of interest is vanadium bearing titanomagnetite.

There are three contiguous resource deposits: the Cook, Kupe, and Tasman VTM deposits, that make up the Taranaki VTM project. The mineral resource and Davis Tube Recovery (DTR) concentrate estimates reported, based on all available assay data as of 1 January 2015, include iron oxide and iron (Fe2O3 & Fe), titanium dioxide (TiO2) and vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) mineral resource estimates.
