Kanchan mineA stratum in the block occurs in Barakar formation which mainly comprises fine to course grained sandstone, gray shale and carbonaceous shale and coal seam. There are five coal seams in the block. In five seams the prominent seam are Johilla Bottom, L1B and L2B. The mine bounded in northern direction by a fault named Pali Deori fault (+300m throw) Eastern part is bounded by a fault F4-F4 (15.50m throw) Western boundary is an arbitrary line.Nowrozabad mineThere are three seams of coal in the area 1) Johilla Top, thickness 0.6 m to 45 m; 2) Johilla Bottom, thickness 1.5 m to 3 m and parting from top cover 4 m to 27 m; 3) L-1 Seam, thickness 1.5 m to 3 m and parting from Johilla Bottom seam i.e. 12 m to 16 m.Pali mineThere is a major fault of more than 120 m on the northern side of the property running east-west direction and a fault of 7m upthrow and some other small fault exist in the mine.There are two seams of coal in the area. Direction and average dip of seam: 1in6, N15°E for both seam.Geological features: There are seven major faults in the property having throw 5 m to 50 m. A number of small faults having less than 5.0m have also been encountered and negotiate while developing the seam in the property.Piparia mineThe Barakar formation of Umaria coalfields occurs in triangular shaped are measuring about 15 sq.km. The coal bearing Barakar strata are overlain by a thick sequence of sediments arbitrarily designed as Super-Barakar in the northern part. The south western limit of coalfields covered by Talchirs.Vindhya mineThe entire block is covered by soil except a few exposure of lameta formation and domain area in East part is of super Barakar formation The strata has a northly dip which varies from 1 in 10 to 1 in 16.
