Bagdeva mineThere are three workable seams, i.e.G-II (A), G-III (Top) and G-III (Bottom). G-II (A) and G-III (Top) have limited workable area and seam G-III (Bottom) has maximum production potential .The general strike direction of strata is NNW-SSE. It takes swing to NE-SW in the small northern part. The dip varies from 3 to 6. A total number of seven faults have been deciphered. The throw varies from 2 m to 80 m.Balgi mineKorba coalfield belongs to Damuda series of lower Gondwana system in the Chhattisgarh basin. G-I, G-II, and G-III (“G” Stands for Ghurdewa) are the three seams existing in the leasehold area of Balgi Project. G-II seam is not workable due to its poor thickness. All the three seams are in-cropping in property. The coal beds exhibit dips of 1 in 6 to 1 in 9. The minimum depth of cover of the workings varies from 20m to 265m. the roof and floor of the seams are generally medium grained sandstone but shale bands are also observed in small patches. The roof has been classified as fair presently. Two major faults are traversing in the property. i.e., F-1- F-1 of 35m throw and F-2 –F-2 of 35m to 84m throw met as strike direction. One significant feature of Balgi mine is that all the depillaring operations have been done by limited span method to protect the intervening parting between G-III and G-I seams.Dhelwadih mineThe geology of the Dhelwadih block is characterized by Lower Barakar Formation of Gondwana Super Group, lying directly above the Precambrian Schist. The formations are trending E-W with general dip of 5° to 8° towards the South. In addition, the area is characterized by number of transverse faults trending NE-SW, NW-SE and E-W with variable magnitudes of throw. Three coal seams are encountered in the area, i.e. G-III (bottom), G-III (top) and G-IV.Singhali mine The G-III seam encountered in the area is split into GIII top and G-III bottom workable sections. At present only G-III bottom is being mined. The gradient of seam is 1 in 12 to 1 in 20.Surakachhar mineThere are four seams encountered in the area. Out of these seams only two seam, i.e., G-I and G-III are workable. A major up-throw fault having a throw of 47m is encountered and it runs from north west to east side of the property. Two other faults are also existing parallel to the north-east mine boundary causing disturbance in the working of GIII seam. Thickness of both seams varies from 1.6 to 3.0 m and consisting of numerous slips/ fractured roof. Seepage of water with shiny/ gritty appearance has been found in G-III seam.
