Snapshot	The Mogale Tailings Retreatment (MTR) operation consists of a metallurgical plant treating historic tailings from the Mogale and Soweto Clusters, which originated from past mining at West Rand Consolidated Mines, Luipaardsvlei, Rand Leases, and Durban Roodepoort Deep. The plant was commissioned in October 2024 with the first gold pour, reaching steady-state production in December 2024 through retreatment of the 1L23-25 TSF of the Mogale Cluster. An expansion of plant capacity has been approved and is scheduled for commissioning in FY26. In parallel, a feasibility study is underway to assess the economic viability of constructing a standalone plant to treat the Soweto Cluster reserves. A 20MW solar plant feasibility study is also in progress to support future operations.

Summary:

Mineralisation style: Deposition material of historically treated metallurgical tailings from reefs mined at WRCM, Luipaardsvlei Gold Mine, Rand Leases and DRD Gold.

The reefs are arenaceous conglomeratic sedimentary rocks of the Archaean age and are generally considered as ancient river placers. These reefs are frequently less than a metre thick and characterised by abundant pyrite, which may comprise up to 5% of the reef, as well as flyspeck and/or seam carbon/kerogen. These three components display a strong spatial correlation with the gold mineralisation, which is rarely visible, in the 10-to-20-micron range.

Mineralisation characteristics: The material is confined to the deposition sites of historical tailings and approximately 1m beneath the historical footprints. The ore consists of oxidised tailings containing pyrite-associated gold which was not recovered in the initial treatment process.
