The Hercynian tungsten mineralisation is interpreted to be of granitic affiliation. Mineralisation occurs as quartz veins bundles within a ring-dyke model and disseminated in greissenized granitic fingers.La Parrilla Mine is located in the southeastern part of the central Iberian zone of the Iberian Massif, also known as the Hercynian Massif, which occupies the western part of the Iberian Peninsula, composed of crystalline and metamorphic rocks from the Paleozoic. The mineralization comprises coarse-grained scheelite- bearing veins located within greywackes and slates of the “Complejo Esquisto-Grauváquico” formation, from the Precambrian- Lower Cambrian. These rocks have been folded and fractured by the Cadomian, Hercynian (the most important), and Alpine orogenies, and have also been afected by a low-grade regional metamorphism (green shale facies). The existence of a contact metamorphism halo indicates the possible presence of a Hercynian granite batholite at depth. The geology and metallogeny of the mine have been studied in detail by Campos et al. (1995) and Gumiel and Campos (2002). The La Parrilla mine lies within the western part of the Iberian Peninsula, referred to as the Centro Iberian Zone, which represents the central part of the Hercynian orogeny. This area is dominated by intense metamorphism and multiple granitic intrusions. Mineralisation comprises coarse-grained scheelite bearing veins hosted within greywacke and shale. The mineralised veins range in thickness from 1cm to 3.95m and dip shallowly towards the south-east at 30 degrees. Veins form is a series of 10m to 45m wide zones that display good continuity over 300m down-dip and several 100s of meters along strike. Greissendised granite fingers have also been intersected providing the highest-grade intersections to date (55m grading 0.73% WO3.
