[Translation from Spanish]The Asientos mine is an underground mine located in the Asientos-Tepezala mining district in the northeastern part of the state of Aguascalientes. The predominant rocks in study area are acidic rocks. Next in importance are sedimentary rocks of continental origin (sandstones and conglomerates) from the Tertiary period. Within the state, there are outcrops of marine sedimentary rocks from the Cretaceous. These are economically important as they store mineralization in the localized mining districts (Asientos-Tepezala). In addition, there are metamorphic rocks from the Triassic and Jurassic, although they constitute small outcrops. Intrusive igneous rocks are closely related to mineralization and are represented by two small bodies that deformed and mineralized the sedimentary rocks in the Asientos-Tepezala area. This province covers the eastern portion of the state, bordered by the Sierra Madre Occidental to the west and the Neovolcanic Axis to the southeast. The oldest rocks in this province are marine sedimentary rocks from the Cretaceous period, consisting of limestone, limestone-mudstone, and mudstone-sandstone. From the Tertiary period, some acidic intrusive igneous rocks emerge, affecting and mineralizing the Cretaceous rocks that outcrop near the towns of Tepezala and Asientos. Also from the Tertiary period, there are acidic extrusive igneous rocks that underlie continental clastic deposits (sandstone, conglomerate, and sandstone-conglomerate). Quaternary alluvial deposits are abundant in this province, found in the existing valleys. The most important geological structures in this part of the province are two small mineralizing intrusive bodies, a regional fault, some lava flows, and small fractures that have, in some cases, been mineralized. The origin of the deposits is associated with hydrothermal solutions that have filled fractures, giving them the form of veins.
