Tahmoor Coal Mine is an underground coal mine consisting of the Tahmoor North Mining Domain (Western Domain) and Tahmoor South Mining Domain.
Extraction of Longwall West 4 (LW W4) was completed on 17th August 2022 which completed mining in the Western Domain area. Mining in the Tahmoor South domain commenced with the start of extraction for LW S1A on the 18th October 2022 and is currently progressively mining.
Mining of the Tahmoor South Domain extends the life of the Tahmoor Mine by a further 10 years, up until 2032.
All major mining equipment has now transitioned from Tahmoor North to Tahmoor South. |

Summary:
Tahmoor Mine lies in the southern part of the Permo-Triassic Sydney Basin, within which the main coal bearing sequence is the Illawarra Coal Measures.
Coal is mined from within the Bulli seam. The Bulli seam coal is predominantly a hard-coking coal.
In the Tahmoor South Project area, the Bulli coal seam is located approximately 370 to 430 m below the surface and is approximately 1.8 to 3.3 m thick.
Two major fault zones exist in the Project area: the Nepean Fault and the Central Fault zones. The presence of these fault zones has constrained the extent of longwalls and defined the mining domain for the proposed development. The Nepean Fault zone is the most significant geological feature. This fault is approximately 350 m wide and trends north-south along the eastern boundary of the area. The Central Fault zone is a smaller fault and trends along the western and southern boundaries.
Summary:
All longwall mining has now been completed in the Tahmoor North mining Domain and active mining is focused in the Tahmoor South Mining Domain since the 18th October 2022.
Longwalls have been extracted within the Tahmoor North and Western Domains at a depth of approximately 450m in the Bulli Seam, with current longwall extraction within the Tahmoor South Domain at a depth of approximately 385m in the Bulli Coal Seam.
The Tahmoor South Project is an extension of underground mining at Tahmoor North, to the south of existing surface facilities.
In April 2021, Tahmoor Coal received Development Application Approval for the extraction of up to 4 Mtpa of ROM coal, with a total of up to around 33 Mt of ROM coal proposed to be extracted over a 10-year period.
Longwall mining will be used to extract coal from the Bulli coal seam within the bounds of Consolidated Coal Lease (CCL) 716 and CCL 747. Twelve longwalls are proposed in this domain which are divided into a series of six northern (A series) and six southern (B series) longwalls. An Extraction Plan for the A series, Longwalls’ South 1A to South 6A (LW S1A-S6A) was approved on 20 September 2022 and the first longwall of Series A is being mined.
Coal extraction is proposed from two series (A & B) of 6 longwalls which would be orientated in a south-east / north-west direction. Longwall widths would be up to 283 m and lengths would vary between 1,515 m (LW 101B) and 3,810 m (LW 106B). Overburden depth would range from a minimum o ........

The Run of Mine (ROM) feed is normally in the size range of 0 to 250mm. The feed is sized to 100 mm using a divergator. The +100mm reports to the primary crusher and is crushed to 100mm top size. The combined product reports to the raw coal sizing screen and material over 50mm is crushed in the secondary crusher to 50mm maximum. The product from this operation is de-slimed over 2 de-sliming screens to 0.5mm.
