SnapshotRoy Hill is a world-class iron ore operation and one of the largest single ore mines in Australia.

The mine comprises numerous open pits, a mine processing plant and associated infrastructure for transport, utilities and accommodation.

Roy Hill has made significant investments to improve its operations and maintain efficient production above 60 Mtpa. This includes investment in the autonomous haulage system (AHS) fleet expansion. Early works have commenced on McPhee which will be the next operating mine to utilise the existing Roy Hill infrastructure.

The Roy Hill Mine is owned and operated under the entity Roy Hill Iron Ore Pty Ltd (Roy Hill). Roy Hill Iron Ore Pty Ltd (RHIO) and Roy Hill Infrastructure Pty Ltd (RHI) are wholly owned subsidiaries of Roy Hill Holdings Pty Ltd (RHH).

Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd (HPPL) is the majority owner with a 70 % equity interest. The remaining 30 % equity interest is held through consortia comprising Marubeni Corporation, POSCO and China Steel Corporation, with Marubeni Corporation holding a 15 % equity interest in the company, POSCO holding 12.5 % and China Steel Corporation holding 2.5 %.

Summary:

The Chichester Range forms the northern-most outcrop of the Hamersley Group for most of the Hamersley Iron Province. The Chichester Range comprises Cainozoic alluvial and colluvial sediments over lying the Hamersley Group Marra Mamba Formation and Fortescue Group’s youngest formation, the Jeerinah Formation. The Fortescue Valley sequence comprises Tertiary detritals (calcretised lacustrine and fluvial clay deposits) and the underlying Wittenoom Formation (dominated by dolomite of the Paraburdoo Member). The Chichester Range occurs over the Mine Area whilst the Fortescue Valley sequence covers the Southern Borefields (including Remote MAR). The stratigraphic units in the Mine area range from the Warrie Dolomite and Roy Hill Shale Member of the Jeerinah Formation of the Fortescue Group through the Nammuldi Member (NAM) of the Marra Mamba Iron Formation (MMIF) to Cainozoic sediments and recent regolith products of the Fortescue Valley and Chichester Range. The area is also cut by minor NE – SW trending dolerite dykes.

The iron mineralisation resource to be mined includes mineralised sections of Marra Mamba unit, known as the Nammuldi Member.
