The Batu Hijau is a large open pit porphyry copper/gold deposit mined using traditional truck and shovel techniques.
Macmahon is performing its life of mine contract to provide all mining services at the Batu Hijau mine in Indonesia for PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMNT). Batu Hijau is a well-established, world class copper /gold deposit (forecast to April 2032).
Since mining operation started in 2000, the mine has gone through a total of seven mining phases. The Batu Hijau mine is currently in Phase 7 production. Currently, the mine has a length of roughly 3 km, a width around 2.5 km, with a current maximum depth at -315 meters below sea level. In Batu Hijau Pit, each bench is 15 meters high, with bench face angle varies between 60 and 70 degrees, and the overall slope angle of the pit varies between 36 and 38 degrees.
Batu Hijau mine is planned to produce until 2030 from open pit cutbacks known as Phase 7 and 8. Phase 7 ore is scheduled to be depleted by 2024. Phase 8 cutback commenced in mid-2021 and ore production is planned to commence from 2025 until 2030.
Mining operations are supported by a well-capitalized core production mining fleet consisting of 6 electric rope shovels, 12 mining excavators, 181 mining haul truck and in-pit primary crusher.
Higher grade ore is hauled directly to primary crushers as process plant feed, other ores are either directly crushed, placed on stockpiles for blending or processing a ........
