Mine Life | 21 years (as of Jan 1, 2020) |
Serbia Zijin Copper has 4 copper mines (JM, VK, NC and MS) and 1 smelter plant.
Currently, Serbia Zijin Copper is speeding up the technological upgrade and expansion of its 4 mines and smelter plant. After construction completion, it is expected that 120 thousand tonnes of mine-produced copper and 180 thousand tonnes of refined copper will be produced annually. |

Deposit Type

- Breccia pipe / Stockwork
Summary:
Ore deposit type - Porphyry.
Majdanpek porphyry copper deposit represents one of the largest copper reserve in Serbia. It is located in the northern part of the Timok Magmatic Complex (TMC), which is a part of a geological
framework that includes the Alpine – Balkan – Carpathian - Dinaride metallogenic - geodynamic province also referred to as the Carpatho - Balkan Magmatic Belt. The TMC complex in a lozenge shaped belt, almost 100 km in length in the direction north-south, up to 25 km of width, with a total area of around 1130 sq. km.
The Majdanpek deposit, with an average width of 300 m, is approximately 5 km in length. Weak copper mineralization (>0.1% Cu) was detected to a depth of at least 1 km. This deposit consists of porphyry copper-gold deposit with associated replacement deposits (skarns, mantos) and highsulphidation epithermal massive-enargite (gold) sulphide deposits [10]. Mineralization typically occurs in a form of stockworks, within the metamorphic aureole of the andesitic dykes.
This deposit includes two major mining areas, i.e. two different copper deposits: North Revir and South Revir. Both deposits are studied and described in detail by Armstrong et al. (2005). South Revir is the largest deposit with significant mineralization and copper occurrence, the Cu-Au rich massive Knez Lazar body and a number of contact skarns. The second copper deposit "North Revir" contains three ore bodies: 1) Porphyry ore bodies: "Central ore body" and "Dolovi", 2) Cu pyrite ore bodies: "Dolovi 2" and "Stari Dušan" and 3) Polymetallic ore body Tenka. According to the Armstrong et al. (2005), it is characterized by the presence of polymetallic Pb Zn rich limestone with several smaller porphyry copper ore bodies.
Summary:
Mining methods - Open-pit mining + underground mining.
Veliki Krivelj Open Pit Mine
The final slope will be 41 degrees in the lower part and 39 degrees in the upper part. The safety factor is legally determined to be more than 1.3, and the final slope is calculated based on geo-mechanics. This final slope is sometimes lessened to 36 degrees in the weak parts such as faults, etc.
Waste from the Veliki Krivelj is transported about 1km by dump trucks from benches of the pit to a crushing plant (Allis Chalmeris Emisa) which crushes waste to an adequate grain size. After crushing, the waste is transported by belt-conveyors to the Bor open pit where it is dumped by a stacker into the old pit.
Majdanpek Open Pit Mine
The Majdanpek Mine (RBM) is located in the City of Majdanpeck which is 70km from Bor City. The RBM has two open pits, South Pit and North Pit, and a processing plant. The concentrate is transported to the Bor Smelter (TIR) by train.
The top point of the South Pit is 670m and its bottom is 120m above sea level. The summit of the North Pit is 790m and its bottom is 350m. The main ore mineral is porphyry copper in both pits, but the North Pit includes some multi-complex ore deposits as well.
