The coal deposit is part of the Bowen Basin, a significant Permian coal basin stretching 600 kilometres long and 250 kilometres wide. Coal is mined from two seams; the Elphinstone Seam, with an average thickness of 6.4 metres and the Hynds Seam, averaging 8.3 metres in thickness. The Project is located within the Hail Creek Syncline, consisting of Permian to Triassic age sediments, discontinuously overlain by Quaternary alluvial sediments associated with Hail Creek and its tributaries. The Hail Creek Syncline is aligned to the south-southeast and is approximately 30 km long and 7 km wide (AGE, in prep). The syncline is asymmetric, dipping up to 30° on the eastern limb and up to 15° on the western limb. An indicative schematic cross section of the Hail Creek Syncline.
