Lanfranchi mine is in ‘Ready State’ for Restart. The mine has been dewatered, ventilated and is in a ready state. All approvals are in place to recommence production.
Aggressive exploration is underway to support a restart of production.
Development study to a PFS standard is now underway. |

The Lanfranchi Nickel Mine (LNM), located within mineral lease ML15/346, ML15/347, ML15/377, ML 15/385, ML 15/386, ML 15/387, ML 15/388, ML 15/486, ML 15/487, ML 15/493 and mining lease M 15/473.
LNM tenements were previously held by BHP Billiton Nickel West (BHP Nickel West) and subleased to LNM. In October 2010, ownership of the tenements was transferred into the names of Cherish Metals Pty Ltd.
Black Mountain Metals Pty Ltd (BMM, now Black Mountain Resources) purchased Cherish Metals Pty Ltd from the previous owner, Panoramic Resources, in December 2018. Cherish Metals Pty Ltd, including LNM, is a 100% wholly owned subsidiary of BMM.
October 05, 2021 – Black Mountain Metals and the Tembo Capital Group are pleased to announce that the two groups have created a strategic partnership to jointly advance the Lanfranchi nickel sulphide mine in Western Australia.
As part of the transaction, Black Mountain sold a 50% ownership interest in Lanfranchi to Tembo Capital.

Summary:
High-grade nickel sulphide deposits at Lanfranchi occur as ribbon-like shoots at the base of high magnesium komatiite lava flows or channels. The shoots and high-magnesium lava flows occupy channel structures developed in the underlying Lunnon (footwall) basalt. Above the high-magnesium komatiite flows is a thick sequence of progressively less magnesium-rich komatiite flows. Ten channel structures are recognised at Lanfranchi of which six have been mined historically.
Mining Methods
- Open stoping
- Cemented paste backfill
Summary:
Historically, the majority of the ore has been mined via long-hole open stoping, which is a highly mechanised and low cost method. Using this method, access to the top and bottom of the ore block is established with tunnels, a slot raise is created, and holes are then drilled to blast the ore block. Once the ore block has been blasted and extracted, the stopes are filled with paste (tailings and cement mix) to stabilise the void and allow extraction of adjoining ore blocks.
Summary:
The nickel ore is trucked and treated at BHP Billiton Nickel West's Kambalda nickel concentrator under an Ore Tolling and Concentrate Purchase Agreement.
