The Gudai-Darri Iron Ore Mine and processing facility is located on AML70/00252 (ML252SA section 002) held by Mount Bruce Mining Pty Ltd and the Special Rail Licence (AL70/00007) held by Hamersley Iron Pty Limited (a subsidiary of Rio Tinto). Minor facilities will also be located on L47/00701 held by Mount Bruce Mining Pty Ltd.
Gudai-Darri mineralisation is haematite/goethite hosted within the banded iron formations of the Brockman Formation. Detrital deposits are also present at this site.The Gudai-Darri (formerly Koodaideri) mine area contains martite-geothite mineralisation predominantly within the Dales Gorge Member of the Brockman Iron Formation, with lesser mineralisation in the Joffre Member. A variable thickness hydrated capping overlies the deposits, which is permeated with numerous cavities. The orebody is underlain by the Mount McRae Shale and Mount Sylvia Formations.
