SnapshotGudai-Darri mine is part of Hamersley Iron operation and belongs to Australian Pilbara Operations.

Gudai-Darri is one of the newest and most technologically advanced mines in the world. Significant innovations include integrated mine automation and simulation systems. Innovations at Gudai-Darri include autonomous water carts, a rotable bucket wheel reclaimer, and a fully automated laboratory integrated within the mine.

Gudai-Darriā€™s fleet of autonomous haul trucks allow to operate equipment and vehicles remotely from Perth.

A new 34 MW solar plant built at Gudai-Darri together with the new battery electric storage system at Tom Price, is set to reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions.

Gudai-Darri demonstrated record annum rates during Q4 2024. Sustaining production at these rates depends on the timing of approvals for planned mining areas, heritage clearances, and the continuation of the debottlenecking program at the main plant.

  • Banded iron formation

Summary:

Gudai-Darri mineralisation is haematite/goethite hosted within the banded iron formations of the Brockman Formation. Detrital deposits are also present at this site.

The Project area lies within the Hamersley Range which is principally comprised of rocks of the Brockman Iron Formation. Further north is the broad expanse of the Fortescue Valley, which was formed by the preferential erosion of the Wittenoom Formation and includes deep layers of Cainozoic sediments.

The Gudai-Darri (formerly Koodaideri) mine area contains martite-geothite mineralisation predominantly within the Dales Gorge Member of the Brockman Iron Formation, with lesser mineralisation in the Joffre Member. A variable thickness hydrated capping overlies the deposits, which is permeated with numerous cavities. The orebody is underlain by the Mount McRae Shale and Mount Sylvia Formations.
