Summary:
The Gross deposit is hosted within shallowly dipping lower Proterozoic sandstones lying unconformably over Archaean gneisses and schists. The sandstones have been subjected to broad scale metasomatism with associated potassic alteration. Gold and silver mineralisation is associated with this metasomatism. The principal tectonic features in the area consist of a set of N-S striking, steeply dipping faults, a NE – SW striking and steeply dipping shear zone and a shallow thrust of E-W strike, dipping to the south at 20-30°.
The Gross deposit consists of low grade disseminated gold and silver mineralisation associated with the metasomatically altered sandstone sequences. The mineralised sequence is typically between 20m to 200m thick striking approximately east-west and dipping at a shallow 30° to the south. Mineralisation remains open along strike and down dip.
