SnapshotDaunia is one of nine metallurgical coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

The mine produces hard coking coal and pulverised coal injection metallurgical coal product. Daunia’s coal products are exported to customers across Asia through the Hay Point Coal Terminal or Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal near Mackay.

Daunia is adjacent to Whitehaven’s Winchester South development project, which will provide opportunities for future synergies including potential integration of operations.

The mine is currently operating in fully autonomous mode.

Summary:

Bituminous coal is mined from the Permian Moranbah and Rangal Coal measures. Products range from premium quality, low volatile, high vitrinite, hard coking coal to medium volatile hard coking coal, to weak coking coal, some pulverised coal injection (PCI) coal and medium ash thermal coal as a secondary product.

Resources occur in the Rangal Coal Measures of Late Permian age, in a graben-like structurally deforme basin. Dips in the coal measures are variable and range from 5–30°. Two seams are present: Leichhardt — 5.1m average thickness; Vermont — 2.8m average thickness.
