Summary:
The Jellinbah coal deposit is approximately 30 km in length. The major seam of the deposit is the Pollux Seam which is approximately 8 metres thick. The seam dips gently to the east and further down dip splits into the Pollux Upper & Pollux Lower seams.
Mining Methods
- Truck & Shovel / Loader
- Backfill
Summary:
Overburden drilling and blasting is followed by conventional removal with truck and shovel and dozer push. Coal is then mined using the truck and excavator method and is crushed in a 1,200 tonnes per hour crushing and screening plant. Sampling and on-line ash analysis takes place during the crushing process. After crushing, the coal can either be directed to the coal preparation plant or to crushed coal stockpiles.
Overburden is drilled and blasted to provide access to the high-grade, low-ash, low-sulphur coal resource, which is extracted using conventional open-cut truck and excavator methods. Strip mining is used in areas where coal seam dip is less than 10 degrees (Central) and terrace mining in more steeply dipping areas (Plains). Coal seams are mined separately with partings selectively removed down to 150 millimetres (mm). Vegetation is cleared prior to mining and topsoil is selectively stripped for immediate reuse, or stockpiled for future use in rehabilitation. Overburden is initially used to form bunds, haul roads and hardstands or is transported to an outof-pit spoil dump located clear of the coal resource. Most overburden is placed in-pit to backfill mined-out areas.
After mining, careful reshaping and rehabilitation of the spoil dumps is conducted and the site is recovered with top soil and seeded. The mine operates in full compliance with the Queensland Government environmental procedures which control levels of noise, dust, water qual ........
