Geological mapping of the area from the surface exposure as well as from bore holes loggings have shown that iron ore deposit of lease is a stratified bedded type deposit of regular nature. The deposit exhibits good quality ore, considered to be highly potential. The prominent iron ore deposits of the lease hold are confined to Banded Iron Formation (BIF). The deposits are usually Hematitic and associated with Banded Hematite Jasper (BHJ). The ore is localized at the top of the hills and ridges whereas, the valley portion is covered with ferruginous shale. The prominent flat topped mound contains re-cemented insitu iron ore in the Western Block. The second folds are accompanied by a well-developed axial plane striking N60°E – S60°W with a 22° to 48° dip due North-West.Two parallel ore bodies are found to occur both in the Eastern and Western flank of the deposit trending NE-SW with North-Westerly dip. The re-cemented iron ore exposed in the top mounds gradually latertised, as observed towards further West in the BPJ lease hold area. The occurrence of ore in the Eastern flank is mostly SLO/ powdery ore associated with BHJ where, hard massive ore is predominantly occur in the western flank of the deposit devoid of any BHJ. Floats of HMO/HLO are dominant in the North Central part of the deposit. Although, there is no surfacial exposures of BHJ in the western flank but, the same has been encountered in some of the bore holes at depth. Laterisation of HMO/HLO is also observed at the Northern side of the lease hold area.BHJ is exposed in the Northern and South-Eastern part of the deposit trending at par with iron ore. Floats of BHJ are dominantly developed in the Eastern and Central part of the deposit.Local stratigraphy:Unchaballi lease hold exhibits limited rock types of iron ore group and comprised of mixed facies formation. Based on the detailed Geological Mapping over the terrain, quarry cuttings and a close spaced drilling, the following stratigraphy is established for the iron ore deposit of the leasehold area.• Soil/Alluvium;• Laterite;• Ferruginous Shale;• BIF & Iron ore;• Variegated Shale.Local Structure:Iron ore in the lease hold area occur in two parallel isolated bodies both in the Western and Eastern flank. The general strike of the deposit is NE-SW with a North- Westerly dip of 22° to 48°. BHJ exposed in the Eastern flank of the hill shows a minor swing of the trend varying from NE-SW to NW-SE, which might be due to structural disturbances. Due to very contrasting nature of ore occurs on either side of the hill and disappearance of SLO in the Western side of the deposit indicates a clear cut faulting, the western sides being the down thrown.Minor synclinal folds have been well developed in the South-Eastern flank of the hill in BHJ, which are due to structural disturbances. The fold plunges NE with a dip of 35° towards NE & SW. Two sets of vertical joint are well developed in BHJ in NE side of Eastern flank. A number of culmination and depressions are well developed in various parts of the ore bodies in Eastern and Western flank, which might be due to structural disturbances.
