The Gevra block is capped with 4 m to 20 m thick soil cover, the rock exposures are very scanty. The upper barakar formation of thickness more than 250 m in this block is fine to coarse grained sand stone with shale intercalation and coal seams.The upper and lower Kusmunda seams are the two most important coal seams. The seam thickness of upper Kusmunda is 24.94 to 28.85 m. Lower Kusmunda top split is 27.96 m to 45.20 m and bottom split is 3.14 m to 16.16 m.
