SnapshotThe Moanda mine is among the world’s richest manganese deposits. The commercial ore content averages about 45%.

The project includes the launch of the exploitation of a new Okouma plateau and the construction two wet ore concentration lines (washing plants).

Mining operations started in December 2020, while the commissioning of ore washing and conveyor discharge capacity began 2023 year.

Since 15 October 2024, due to a market oversupply, Eramet has decided to suspend ore production at the Moanda mine for a minimum period of 3 weeks; sales and shipments will continue during this period. The duration of this suspension will be revised according to market activity.

Summary:

Moanda is mining high-grade manganese tabular deposits, located under low overburden layer and formed by the weathering of volcano-sedimentary rocks. Manganese ore is found in 5 plateaus around Moanda. They are Bangombe, Okouma, Bafoula, Massengo and Yeye, the most important being Okouma and Bangombe. The manganese ore in the mine is a result of Supergene Sulphide enrichment of the Precambrian Francevillian sediments.
