Summary:
The Kentobe deposit is an integral part of Kentobe-Togai ore field, located in the contact zone of the Topar and Kaldyrma complexes’ granitoids, in the north-eastern part of the Kent massif. The deposit is located within the eastern part of the Kentobe-Togai structure, associated with skarns and metasomatites, with intensive occurrences of dyke formations of different ages and ruptured faults. The mineralization at Kentobe is primarily magnetite, with a small component of oxidized ore within the upper horizons. The magnetite mineralization constitutes all the remaining estimated ore reserves of Kentobe mine.
The length of the deposit is 2.5 km. The width of the deposit is 300 m.
The Kentobe mine is located in the Balkhash metallogenic province hosting numerous volcanic, sedimentary and hydrothermal deposits.
The mine deposit is a skarn with massive magnetite ore. This iron ore contains an important amount of sulfides.
Summary:
Kentobe is a production stage open pit mine.
Magnetite ore is excavated at the mine by conventional truck and shovel methods after drilling and blasting.
The applied system for the development of the Kentobe deposit is transport with external dumping. Rock overburden and ore are developed with preliminary drilling and blasting. For loading the rock mass, excavators of the EKG-5A straight shovel type with a bucket volume of 5.0 m3, KOMATSU PC1250 straight shovel with a 5.5 m3 bucket, and CAT-385 with a 5.0 m3 backhoe bucket are used. Drilling of wells involves roller drilling machines SBSh-250 MN. The main mode of transport for the transportation of ore and overburden rocks is automobile: BelAZ-7523, KOMATSU HD-465 and CAT-773E, as well as vehicles of contractors.
