Summary:
The Catalão I Complex phosphate deposit is part of a series of Late-Cretaceous, carbonatite-bearing alkaline ultramafic plutonic complexes belong to the Alto Paranaiba Igneous Province.
Accumulations of apatite are mainly associated with lateritic processes. A weathering mantle more than 100 m thick was developed over the intrusive body, and contains abundant residual apatite, pyrochlore, monazite, Ti-bearing minerals (perovskite, ilmenite, and anatase), and vermiculite. The intrusion consists of dunite, pyroxenite, phoscorite, phlogopitite, carbonatite and volcaniclastic rocks.
Summary:
Complexo Mineração de Catalão is an open pit mining complex which is located near Catalão, Minas Gerais (and Goias) in Brazil.
Phosphate ore is extracted via conventional truck and shovel method with preliminary drilling and blasting operations. Mined ore is transported to the beneficiation plant onsite at CMC.
