SnapshotBAMIN Operation consists of the Pedra de Ferro iron ore mine, the FIOL railway and the Porto Sul port development. It represents one of the largest infrastructure development projects in Brazil, with a planned production of 26 million tonnes of iron ore.

In 2023, ERG started the construction of FIOL 1. FIOL 1 is the first section of Brazil’s major West-East Integration Railway (FIOL) project. This will (as part of the broader FIOL project) carry ore from the Pedra de Ferro mine to the east coast of Brazil for export via Porto Sul.

Bamin intends to propose to the Ministry of Transport a new forecast for the start of Fiol’s operations, rescheduling the previous 2027 target to 2031.

As at Oct 2025, the Pedra de Ferro mine has been under care and maintenance since Jan 2025, with a capacity to produce up to 2Mtpa of high-grade iron ore. The goal is to significantly increase production after completing the logistics corridor that will connect Bahia’s interior to the coast.

The operation is 100% owned by Bahia Mineração(BAMIN), a wholly-owned Brazilian subsidiary of ERG(Eurasian Resources Group).

Bamin reported at the opening of Exposibram that its shareholders are reviewing proposals from strategic investors for the integrated project encompassing the Pedra de Ferro mine, the FIOL railway and Porto Sul in Ilhéus (BA). A selection decision is expected by early 2026, when one proposal will be chosen to proceed to negotiations.
