Leinster mine complex consists of Venus sub-level caving operation, B11 block caving operation, Camelot open-pit mine, Rocky’s Reward open-pit mine.

Nickel sulphide ore is mined at the Cliffs and Leinster underground mines and processed through a concentrator and dryer at Leinster.

On 11 July 2024, BHP announced Western Australia Nickel, comprising the Nickel West operations and West Musgrave project to be temporarily suspended from October 2024. This decision reflects oversupply in the global nickel market. The Company intends to review the decision by February 2027.

Steeply dipping disseminated and massive textured nickel-sulphide mineralisation associated with metamorphosed ultramafic lava flows and intrusions.

BHP Billiton’s Leinster Nickel Operation (LNO) is located 600 km north-east of Perth in the Eastern Goldfields Region of Western Australia. The LNO deposits are situated within the Wiluna Greenstone Belt and the orebodies are hosted in Komatite Ultramafic lava flows.
